For me, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">historical places in Delhi<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which I explored ahead of and during my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdoqocy.com\/click-100431838-11555299?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gadventures.com%2Ftrips%2Fdiscover-india%2F8372%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">15-day G Adventures trip to India,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0were an unexpected delight. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had read that India\u2019s most populous city was crowded and chaotic, and it is, but it is also fascinating with incredible history and stunning historic gems.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travelers to India may be inclined to land in Delhi and quickly move on, but that\u2019s a missed opportunity. Delhi has an incredible history, and three <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unesco World Heritage monuments<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0among its many architectural treasures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>Here are the Six Historical Places in Delhi that I recommend that travelers visit, on their trip to India.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div at\u00a0Humayun\u2019s Tomb\u00a0is a respite from the noise and craziness of Delhi.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/232\"><span class=\"s1\">Humayun\u2019s Tomb<\/span><\/a> is one of three Unesco World Heritage monuments in Delhi. It was built in the 1560\u2019s by Humayun\u2019s son, the Emperor Akbar.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Persian and Indian craftsmen worked together to create a tomb that was at the time more elaborate that any built before in the Islamic world. He is known primarily for his architectural contributions including the Taj Mahal which he commissioned in 1632 as a monument to his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The 42-meter high gate was built over a ten-year period between 1921 and 1931 and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">evokes the style of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">triumphal arches <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such as those found in Rome. I<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t is often compared to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arc de Triomphe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Paris. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India Gate is a war memorial that commemorates soldiers who served and died in World War I, as well as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">British and Indian soldiers killed in the Afghan war of 1919. A flame burns day and night under the arch in remembrance of soldiers who died in the <span class=\"bold\">Indo-Pakistan<\/span> War of<span class=\"bold\"> 1971.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p>It is sometimes the site of civic demonstrations by Indians. The gate looks especially beautiful in the evening when it is illuminated, sometimes with the colours of the Indian flag. Once inside the sprawling park, you forget you are in a city of almost 20 million people. And at its center is The Lodi Tomb, a striking octagonal monument dating to the 16th century.<\/p><p>The tomb was built for Sikandar Lodi the second ruler of the Lodi dynasty. I loved watching the locals play cricket, and photo shoots were plentiful on the warm December day I visited.
