The Paris Opera House (Palais Garnier) is one of my favorite buildings in Paris and is especially pretty at night. The exterior takes on a golden glow, and and its gilded Belle Epoque interior glitters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Built in the 19th century, at the behest of Emperor Napoleon III, it&#8217;s an opulent tribute to French arts. You can purchase tickets to an evening ballet, opera or concert. My sister and I recently attend an evening\u00a0 symphony and tickets were very reasonable. You can explore current options at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.operadeparis.fr\/en\/programme-and-tickets?season=23-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Palais Garnier Tickets.\u00a0<\/span><\/a> Note that some performances are held at the more modern Opera Bastille, so make sure you are booking a &#8220;Palais Garnier &#8220;performance if you&#8217;d like to see inside this beauty.\u00a0<\/p><p>You can also take tours of the Palais Garnier, either guided or self-guided. I did a guided tour on my recent trip, and it was very interesting; I highly recommend it.\u00a0<\/p><p>There is also an early evening tour called: <strong>The Mysteries of the Palais Garnier<\/strong>, which takes place after closing, at 5 pm, so you&#8217;ll explore without the crowds. Violent crime is rare in Paris but pickpockets are active. Avoid anyone who approaches you with a clipboard.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u2022 The Paris Metro is fast, safe and efficient. It operates until 12:45am Sunday to Thursday and 1:45am on Friday and Saturday evenings. Usually it&#8217;s busy, but outer stations may be deserted. Double-check Metro operating hours before you head out. Unexpected closures happen.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u2022 Have Uber (widely available) loaded on your phone and data service enabled for the app, so you always have the option to call one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>\u2022 If you begin to feel nervous while walking, you could also head to a nearby caf\u00e9 and ask them to call a taxi. Booked a timed entry ahead!<\/p><p class=\"p1\">The Tuileries Garden, which separates the Louvre from the Place de la Concorde is open until 9 pm from the last Sunday in March to the last Saturday in September.\u00a0<\/p><p>And the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musee-orsay.fr\/en\/visit\/admission-opening-times-tickets#anchor-navigation-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Musee d&#8217;Orsay<\/span><\/a><u>,\u00a0<\/u>my favorite, is open until 9:45 on Thursdays. Pre-booking is required and available online.\u00a0<\/p><p>If you&#8217;d like to take a guided tour of the Louvre, I recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.takewalks.com\/paris-tours\/louvre-tour-mona-lisa\/?tap_a=29774-b9abbb&amp;tap_s=7651507-45092c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Closing Time at the Louvre<\/span><\/a>, a three-hour tour with a maximum of 15 guests. The venue is charming, a bright slice of Paris history, and I thought the performers were excellent.\u00a0<\/p><p>This books up well ahead, and I would advise having dinner elsewhere before. There are so many wonderful restaurants and the food here is said to be just ok and expensive. This is a spectacular vantage point to see the Eiffel Tower light show, illuminations which occurs on the hour from dusk to 1 am. I went very slowly and it was still nerve wracking &#8211; yet fun. And we got wonderful views of Paris at night. Jane, an American originally from Chicago, also takes guests on market visits and together they create authentic French meals with her team of French chefs. And they dine together afterwards to enjoy what they&#8217;ve prepared.\u00a0<\/p><p>La Cuisine Paris offers several <a href=\"https:\/\/lacuisineparis.com\/paris-cooking-classes\/evening-classes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">evening classes<\/span><\/a> with details at their website. I attended a class with them in April 2025 and loved the experince. A fellow Paris-lover told me that her evening at a jazz club in the Latin Quarter was one of the best nights she and her husband have ever had, not just in Paris but anywhere!\u00a0<\/p><p>Famous and highly recommended Jazz caves \u2014 called such because they are in the basement and typically have walls made of stone \u2014 include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caveaudelahuchette.fr\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Le Caveau de la Huchette<\/span><\/a>. The building dates to the 16th century but became a jazz club in 1946. The rooms are a class Parisian style with gorgeous bathrooms. I don&#8217;t want a minimalist modern vibe in Paris. I want to feel like Marie Antoinette!
