Fall is hurricane season in Miami but lovely in New York City. There\u2019s also a wonderful flea market here known as &#8220;The Flea&#8221;.\u00a0 A great spot for treasure hunting with assorted gems such as antique Native American jewelry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a little pampering is in order, visit the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tenthousandwaves.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ten Thousand Waves Spa<\/a><\/span> for a dose of R&amp;R in a lovely setting.\u00a0 And in summer catch a performance at the Santa Fe Opera, a world-renowned open air theatre. Green and red chile are on many menus and worth a try when you get the chance (they can be spicy so ask about spice level when you order).<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">A couple of restaurants I enjoyed on my most recent trip were the Terra Cotta Bistro, where creative international dishes reflect the owners&#8217; passion for travel. It has lots of character and thought it was great value for money. I&#8217;ve also stayed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Santa-Fe-Hotels-La-Posada-De-Santa-Fe.h11610.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">La Posada de Santa Fe, <\/span><\/a>a sprawling resort-style property with a pool, spa and rooms with wood burning fireplaces (make sure you book that specifically if you want it). The location is great. If you want a resort-style hotel and find a price you are happy with (it can be pricey) I recommend this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a budget-friendly option check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Santa-Fe-Hotels-El-Rey-Court.h1095477.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">El Rey Court<\/span><\/a>. It has comfortable rooms with a colorful southwestern vibe and a nice breakfast. It also has a pool &#8211; not fancy, but does the job for cooling off after a day of sightseeing in the warm months. It is further from the center of town.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a more luxurious experience, Santa Fe has fabulous options. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Santa-Fe-Hotels-La-Fonda-On-The-Plaza.h6690.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">La Fonda on the Plaza<\/span><\/a> has great reviews. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a splurge, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Santa-Fe-Hotels-Rosewood-Inn-Of-The-Anasazi.h2125.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi <\/span><\/a>looks gorgeous and the ultra-luxe<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Santa-Fe-Hotels-The-Inn-Of-The-Five-Graces.h35209175.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Inn of the Five Graces<\/span><\/a> is as special, and expensive, as it gets in Santa Fe. We had a wonderful dinner at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafelatrova.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cafe Le Trova<\/span><\/a> which I highly recommend, and then went salsa dancing at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ballandchainmiami.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ball and Chain<\/span><\/a>, a Miami institution since 1935. We got lucky: Luis Bofill, a very talented Cuban-American was performing on the pineapple stage\u00a0 &#8211; the back garden venue at the club. Salsa dancing to his incredible performance was unforgettable. (Note: The Ball &amp; Chain is closed as of the summer of 2021 but it is supposed to reopen soon. Check the website for details.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also enjoyed doing an architecture tour of the Art Deco buildings in South Beach. You can go on a guided tour or do a self-guided tour as I did. The oldest restaurant in Miami is also my oldest memory of Miami as our family used to make a special expedition to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/joesstonecrab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Joe\u2019s Stone Crab<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on our Florida vacations. I learned early on that when stone crab is on a menu, you order it.<\/span><\/p><p>You&#8217;ll find many of the city&#8217;s exceptional restaurants inside hotels. For Italian, check out <em>Osteria Morini<\/em> inside the Kimpton Palomar. On my next trip I want to try <em>Byblos Miami<\/em> on Collins Avenue. The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Miami-Hotels-The-Raleigh.h16161.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <em>Raleigh Hotel<\/em> <\/span><\/a>is the classic right in the heart of South Beach. For over the top luxe check out the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Miami-Hotels-Fontainebleau-Miami-Beach.h1190549.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fontainebleau<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a historic property designed by Morris Lapidus, know for his Miami modern hotels of the 1950&#8217;s. It has a fabulous pool, gorgeous art, and excellent Spanish restaurant. Further north in Miami Beach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Miami-Hotels-The-Miami-Beach-EDITION.h28105.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Miami Edition<\/span><\/a> is also popular if you want a sprawling beachfront resort with lots of amenities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For something more budget friendly there are many boutique hotels in the Art Deco buildings scattered within a block of Collins Avenue. We had drinks and a tour of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Miami-Hotels-The-Miami-Beach-EDITION.h28105.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Dream Hotel<\/span><\/a> and I thought it had a great vibe. It has a nice rooftop bar with a small but cute pool, and is a short walk to the beach. The architecture and decor are colorful and fun. On our girls weekend in Charleston, we loved meandering to enjoy the gorgeous houses and stunning gardens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best time to visit Charleston is anytime other than summer when it is very hot and humid. We borrowed bikes from out hotel and rode around the city. Between a beautiful waterfront and charming streets, it&#8217;s easy to cover a lot of ground and take in this picturesque city.\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/theoldslavemartmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Old Slave Mart<\/span><\/a> is a Charleston museum that I found incredibly informative and also very difficult and sad. There are also locations in Savannah and Nashville, two other cities I love for girls trips. We had a wonderful dinner at <i>Magnolia<\/i> (check the website it may be temporarily closed). We chose a mid-priced option, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Charleston-Hotels-The-Vendue.h172457.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Vendue<\/span><\/a>, and enjoyed our stay. It has a great location and a rooftop bar with a lovely view of the harbor. Next time I would choose something with a more traditional southern vibe: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Charleston-Hotels-Wentworth-Mansion.h570475.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wentworth Mansion<\/span><\/a> if I had the budget or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Charleston-Hotels-French-Quarter-Inn.h804958.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">French Quarter Inn<\/span><\/a>. Add to that incredible wine, and a close to ideal climate year-round and Carmel offers an ideal girls&#8217; weekend getaway. I would definitely like to visit\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refuge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Refuge<\/span><\/a> on my next trip (although they have a &#8220;no talking&#8221; policy which isn\u2019t for every girl group). Today it is also an active parish. You can either visit and admire the building and gardens from outside, or take a guided tour. Check the website for the current tour schedule.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">The Carmel beach is gorgeous for walks, especially at sunset. And if your group enjoys hiking, I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=571\"><span class=\"s1\">Point Lobos State Park<\/span><\/a>, a stunning coastal preserve with gorgeous trails and ocean views. It&#8217;s on the edge of town. <em>The Sandpiper Inn<\/em> is a Bed &amp; Breakfast with charming rooms and ocean views.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a full-service resort in the mid-high price point, I&#8217;d consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticklepinkinn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">T<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticklepinkinn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ickle<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticklepinkinn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Pink <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticklepinkinn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Inn<\/span><\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticklepinkinn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">, <\/span><\/a><\/em>\u00a0an oceanfront hotel atop the rocky coastline with stunning views. Some rooms may be a little dated, but the gorgeous adjoining patios seem to make up for it. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Monterey-Hotels-Tradewinds-Carmel.h1340227.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Tradewinds Hotel <\/a>i<\/span>s a boutique property with Asian-inspired decor. Let me count the ways. Obviously New York has endless options for what to see and do. But to me what makes it so wonderful for a girls&#8217; getaway is the energy in New York is unlike anywhere else in the U.S. &#8220;Girls just wanna have fun&#8221; and there&#8217;s no better place. Since a big part of seeing New York is exploring on foot, spring or fall is the best times for a girls&#8217; weekend here. The nice thing about both is they are manageable in size so if you only have a weekend in New York you can see either in just a couple of hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walking the High Line park is also a fun way to enjoy views of both the Hudson River and the Chelsea area of New York.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">I also love walking across the Brooklyn bridge; subway or taxi to Brooklyn, have brunch at one of the cute restaurants and then walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge to enjoy the spectacular New York skyline (and get a glimpse of the State of Liberty).<\/p><p>And of course the New York theatre&#8230; either plan ahead to get tickets to the show of your choice (especially if you are a large group), or take your chances with last-minute tickets. Dining in New York deserves an article of its own.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">I recommend the New York Times Restaurant reviews online as a great resource. You can sort by neighborhood, price range and food type. If I have to pick one, <i>Pastis<\/i> is a classic for French bistro food in the meatpacking district, very near the High Line.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6cc50c1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6cc50c1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Stay<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4c45679 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4c45679\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have stayed in many different hotels in New York over the years so can make a few suggestions. In midtown I love the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/New-York-Hotels-The-Lexington-Hotel.h20288.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lexington Hotel<\/span><\/a> which was built in 1929 &#8211; Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio lived here during their brief marriage in the 1950\u2019s. Some rooms have fabulous balconies. I stayed at their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-100431838-14107497?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.citizenm.com%2Fhotels%2Funited-states%2Fnew-york%2Fnew-york-bowery-hotel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bowery location<\/span><\/a> on my most recent NYC visit and thought it was fabulous; I really enjoyed the gorgeous rooftop bar. (They also have a Times Square location, although I don\u2019t love Times Square as an area to stay in.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4035f9b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4035f9b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>For a very nice boutique hotel experience I loves the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/New-York-Hotels-The-Maritime-Hotel.h917965.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Maritime Hotel<\/span><\/a> in the Meatpacking District. The location is terrific and the rooms are small but fabulous.\u00a0\u00a0Another boutique hotel I\u2019d adore to stay in is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/New-York-Hotels-The-Bowery-Hotel.h1601056.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Bowery<\/span><\/a>. But there is something special about Aspen for a girls&#8217; weekend. It\u2019s small, yet has so much to offer \u2014 something for everyone. In winter you can ski, but there are other options if you don\u2019t. In warm weather you are situated near one of the best hikes in Colorado: Maroon Bells, also among the most photographed mountains in the country. You can\u2019t park at the trailhead so you will need a <a href=\"https:\/\/aspenchamber.org\/plan-trip\/trip-highlights\/maroon-bells\/reservations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">reservation<\/span><\/a> for the parking lot and shuttle to the trail. It\u2019s best to reserve this as soon as you know you are going as it can book up well ahead.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">A much more accessible hike is the Hunter Creek Loop, a favorite trail among locals and accessible from town.\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After your outdoor adventures you may be ready for a little pampering and there are multiple options here at various price points. I haven\u2019t visited a spa in Aspen but most seem to get rave reviews.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">The shopping is also plentiful for a small mountain town. It\u2019s charming and magical and the perfect dinner spot for anyone and everyone. Whether you are with the girls, with a partner, with a parent, with a child, on your own, please come here! I&#8217;ve heard there are a lot of other great restaurants in Aspen as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-84b1020 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"84b1020\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Stay<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ecf3952 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ecf3952\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I didn\u2019t love where we stayed on my list visit to Aspen so I am not going to suggest it. I am hoping to get to Aspen again later this year and would like to stay at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stay22.com\/allez\/expedia?aid=midlifeglobetrotter&amp;campaign=midlifeglobetrotter&amp;product=lma&amp;habl=false&amp;isinc=false&amp;sid22=3d73eb2f-6fc3-47b3-ab96-380b9dc742ee&amp;source=direct&amp;medium=deeplink&amp;link=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.expedia.com%2FAspen-Hotels-Annabelle-Inn.h1157609.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Annabelle Inn<\/span><\/a><i>.<\/i>\u00a0 It\u2019s a European-style lodge in downtown Aspen with breakfast that is budget-friendly. They have rooms with two doubles, perfect if girls are sharing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no shortage of luxe accommodation in Aspen, but it is pricey. Booking ahead may save you money, as well as visiting in the shoulder season. I think early fall would be wonderful.
